Reviewers talk about “Watching Grandma Circle the Drain”

Smith has a very satiric wit, catching the reader by surprise and causing him/her many fits of laughter. This is a great book for those who are looking for a quick laugh, especially as it’s designed to be a book you can peruse at your leisure since each vignette is a standalone piece. I highly recommend this book! Five stars.

Watching Grandma Circle the Drain” is a marvelous and outright funny look at various attributes of modern life from Allen’s dry and parodying style. Each of the chapters is really only a few pages long, so this is a book to keep around your living room table or give to a friend for a Holiday present when you need to inject some dry wit perspective into your daily life, and who couldn’t use a few more laugh in their day?

Aside from the title, Watching Grandma Circle the Drain by Allen Smith being funny it makes one think about the things that run through another’s mind and the randomness of those thoughts. I always wondered about online dating sites and if there is a real chance of finding real love through them. Well, after reading “Expelled from Match.com!” and “The Real Secret to Using On-line Dating” I do not believe I can ever take these sites seriously. Thank goodness I do not need to.

If you’re a fan of humor and you’re looking for something that is light and comedic, you’d definitely enjoy this one. I found it to be a good relaxing read, it just helps you to unwind after a long and tiring week. Definitely check out Watching Grandma Circle the Drain.

About his book, Watching Grandma Circle the Drain, Allen Smith states, “It’s a little cynical but never intended to offend anyone.” I would say, “Good luck with that one Allen!” The book pokes fun at everyone and everything and then some, but on the plus side Allen gives himself the biggest beating of all. Every now and then the book takes off on a tangent going to the fantasy side of things, but, you never know, it may spark your imagination and creativity as well. There’s nothing wrong with that, that’s comedy.

I loved this book and laughed myself stupid. Not often does a book offer you genuine belly laughs and escape from life’s drudgery, but this one does. I plan to read it again and again.

This book should come with a warning – don’t read in public, don’t read with company and don’t drink whilst reading!!

Watching Grandma Circle the Drain takes an irreverent look at life. It’s clever. It’s witty. And it’s downright funny. There’s something in there for everyone – golfers, hunters, hairstylists – you name it.

Watching Grandma Circle the Drain is an entertaining book about everyday thoughts and life told in the point of view of a comedian. It is funny, full of energy, and will have readers laughing to the point of tears. I recommend it to others.

Reviewers talk about “Monkey in a Pink Canoe”

Wouldn’t want to go out on a limb for posterity but after reading MONKEY IN A PINK CANOE it seems Allen Smith is the funniest most insightful man around. This hilariously entertaining (and at times far too relevant to be embarrassing) book is a collection of author/humorist Allen Smith’s columns and blogs that hit on about every topic we thought we either knew or had explored completely or ignored for lack of interest and what he does with these everyday experiences is stew them into a soup that bubbles all the way down (or is that up? or out?).

– Grady Harp

Allen Smith has been taking the back roads to story-telling for a lot of years. His latest book is no different. What do you do risk in reading “Monkey in a Pink Canoe” is discovering an author that writes like you think and, that of course, would mean there are two of you out there!!

– Timothy J. Hunter

To many, there are subjects where they would think, yes I get it…been there! It certainty holds no punches but seeps under the skin of reality – with a laugh. Something to make you smile and think.
